Aldi comes to the rescue of a little girl with an incredible surprise

A little girl who reportedly wears only slippers to school has been ‘made up’ after Aldi gave her a special surprise.

Summer Jones wore the white supermarket pumps on long walks, to restaurant meals, to school and to family parties. Although the seven-year-old had “hundreds” of other shoes, she refused to wear anything else on her feet.

After wearing them “all the time”, Summer’s precious white shoes had faded and started to tear at the bottom. Summer, who has Down syndrome, was “very upset” when her mother LeAnne Tennant was forced to put them in the trash.

When she discovered they had been abandoned, the mother-of-five wrote a Facebook post to see if her friends owned similar shoes. LeAnne’s good friend Laura saw the social media post and immediately emailed Aldi to get her hands on the older model sneakers.

Store management responded to Laura and promised to display the exact same trainers at Summer’s address in New Brighton. Aldi also wrote the Elleray Park student a heartwarming letter.

They said: “For the summer, please find some nice new shoes for your enjoyment. We hope you like them and feel warm. Love, Aldi x”

LeAnne told ECHO: ‘My daughter was so upset when we got rid of the shoes. I was so relieved when they arrived in the mail, now she will finally be wearing shoes instead of slippers.

“She wore them every day. The shoes could not be saved because they were white and I had to put them in the trash.

“I have to thank my friend Laura, she’s put in a lot of effort and that’s the kind of person she is. She’s lovely.”
