best buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had recently come together as screenwriters for the Ridley Scott– directed period thriller “The last duel“having already won Oscar statues for their work co-writing the”Goodwill huntingstoryline. They’re now reuniting for a new sportswear drama focused on the juggernaut shoe brand, Nike.
The Hollywood Reporter says the dynamic duo will star in and co-write the script for the untitled pic, which Affleck will also direct. The story centers on Nike executive Sonny Vaccarro and co-founder Phil Knight as the company attempts to sign the iconic Michael Jordan to endorse them in the mid-80s, transforming them into the sneaker giants they are today.
Damon is set to play Vaccarro and Affleck is in the knight role in addition to directing. Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports are finalizing the deal.

However, it’s unclear who will land Jordan’s prominent role in the film.
The landmark deal helped Nike grow into a multi-billion dollar company and sparked a huge market for the sneaker collection, with Nike’s Air Jordan line being one of the most sought-after shoes. This would become the most important relationship between a sports brand and an athlete because Jordan has its own branch, jump manand its popularity thanks to well-made Nike advertisements that featured Spike Lee led to a starring role alongside the “looney tunes“in the 1990s movie”space jam.”
Jordan’s profile has recently been bumped due to the netflix documentary “the last dancewhich focused on the Chicago Bulls player’s rise through the league until his final season with the team and briefly touched on his contract with Nike.
Affleck’s last directorial effort was the 2016 gangster film “Live the night‘ and its poor reception probably contributed to making him timid about his next project as a director.
