Editor’s Notes: 25 years. A quarter of a century of Pokémon. The original animated TV series aired in 1997, the year I was born, and throughout my childhood my brothers and I spent countless hours watching it.
As a result, the introductory theme and title card are forever etched in my memory, like many others my age, I imagine.
Naturally, the next step after getting familiar with the show is to collect cards. Although I was more of a Yu-Gi-Oh fan when it came to collectibles, my brother kept a big stack of Pokémon cards.
In recent history, we’ve seen original cards fetch insane prices – the type of price that leaves you stumped and digging around the loft trying to get your own score. If you’re lucky enough to find something worth your while, you might be one of the few fans who have the bank to copy the Baccarat Pikachu Shard and Glass.
For the humble fan looking for something a little more accessible to add to their collection, Converse has just what you need.
In celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary, Converse replaced Pokéballs with Converse Chuck Taylors and All Stars.
The show’s beloved OG actors – Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff and Pikachu return against two monochrome shoe silhouettes. The black and white pairs are both epitome of on-trend outfits – if you catch them on the outside you’ll know exactly who the real fans are.
Along with the two-piece sneaker offering, clothing inspired by heavy metal tours will be marketed in large sizes.
