Highway 70 in Northern California has been closed due to a massive mudslide

Netflix will be making a sequel to its hit 2020 movie Extraction, which doesn’t surprise anyone. Extraction is an exciting action thriller based on the comedic novel Ciudad d’Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman (aside from children’s fights). It’s no surprise that it had the biggest Netflix launch ever, with around 90 million households watching the film within a month of its release.

Extraction features Chris Hemsworth as a new action hero with franchise potential, directed by Sam Hargrave and scripted by Joe Russo. Tyler Rake, a former Australian Special Forces operator who is now a covert ops mercenary, is played by him. Rake was hired in the first movie to retrieve the kidnapped son of a Mafia lord. He went above and beyond the call of duty, risking his life to ensure the safety of the kidnapped boy. He didn’t just take a chance with his life; he looked dead.

Rake, like any other good action hero, survives to fight another day. Little information regarding Extraction 2 has been released yet, but the original film has already garnered a large fan base keen to see what happens next. Is there no pressure? Either way, we’ve rounded up this handy guide with everything we know about Extraction 2 so far, including trailers, actor info, filming updates, and more. Folks, get ready to lock in and load. Let’s get started!

Extraction 2: who does the sequel?

Extraction 2 will see Hargrave return as a director. Hargrave made his directorial debut with the first Extraction film. He previously said he might not direct all future Extraction films. In January 2021, Hargrave told Collider:

“In terms of personal commitment, I would like to be as involved as possible, but I don’t want to be greedy. As a fan, I would be happy to see a lot of very bright filmmakers who have really unique perspectives and add something new and fresh to the brand. Hopefully we can do the second with the same team and really establish the franchise. But, as a movie buff, I’d love to see other new directors who can take the action level even further.

Extraction 2 will also star Joe Russo as a writer. The next film will also be produced by AGBO, the production company founded by Joe and Anthony Russo. Reportedly, the AGBO team is working to expand the Extraction brand beyond the sequel, with the goal of creating a shared cinematic universe akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Check out the Extraction 2 trailer

In September 2021, Netflix unveiled a trailer for Extraction 2 during their Tudum event, which you can see above. The video begins with a recap of Rake’s final moments, showing how he was hit and fell into a river. “Tyler, you don’t drown by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it,” Mahajan said in a voiceover. Rake then opens his eyes and begins to swim towards the surface, against all difficulties.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer for a real trailer, but keep an eye on this site for updates in the meantime.

What is the release date of Extraction 2?

Extraction 2 has yet to receive a release date from Netflix. They only said it would be “soon”. Does this imply a year in 2022? It’s absolutely a possibility, based on the current state of filming, although we’ll have to wait and see if that actually happens.

Who is part of the cast of Extraction 2?

Chris Hemsworth is the only confirmed actor in Extraction 2. They couldn’t have made the sequel without him, after all.

Hemsworth, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi and David Harbor are among the cast in the first film. It’s currently uncertain if any of these cast members other than Hemsworth will return for the sequel, but we should find out more soon.

Who are the main characters in Extraction?

Chris Hemsworth’s former special forces mercenary Tyler Rake is the main character in the Extraction franchise. Because he is the main character, his reappearance was inevitable. Rake’s growth arc in Extraction was quite nice, so we’ll have to wait and see where he goes from here.

Rudhraksh Jaiswal played Ovi Mahajan Jr. in the first movie. He is the son of Ovi Mahajan, a famous Indian crime boss (played by Pankaj Tripathi). The story of his abduction and rescue was called Extraction. He doesn’t appear to be making a comeback for Extraction 2, although anything is possible at the moment.

Ovi Mahajan SrHead. Security Officer Saju Rav is played by Randeep Hooda, who, like Rake, comes from a special forces background. He obviously killed in Extraction, but who knows if Rake can recover from a bullet and drowning.

Nik Khan, the manager of Rake, was played by Golshifteh Farahani. She was looking for revenge for Rake’s death the last time we saw her. So it will be interesting to see how she reacts to her return. It also makes sense that she’s the one talking to Rake about her new goal, whatever it is.

Gaspar, a former Rake teammate who chose to live in Dhaka, was played by David Harbor. In Extraction, he also turned on Rake and was shot by Ovi, so if he returns for Extraction 2, there will almost certainly be a flashback.

When will Extraction 2 be released?

Filming for Extraction 2 will begin in late November, according to Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram. According to his article, the film would most likely begin production on or around November 22, 2021. Filming was scheduled to begin in Australia in September 2021, but was subsequently moved to Prague, Czech Republic. The decision was made, according to reports, in response to the current COVID-19 situation in Australia and fears of potential closures.

Sam Hargrave previously told Collider that Extraction 2 would be filmed in the fall of 2021.

“[That’s] still the case, pending COVID. That’s kind of everyone’s little caveat right now, but we’re moving forward like we’re shooting in the fall. Joe [Russo] is still finalizing the script. We are all delighted to read it. I have read different iterations, but am delighted to read what it does. We all can’t wait to get back in the saddle and hopefully bring another action-packed adventure to the ‘Extraction’ universe.

If all goes as planned, Extraction 2 could be completed in time for a summer 2022 release. But keep an eye out for this space as we’ll update it with the most recent filming information as soon as we have it!

When will Extraction 2 take place?

Extraction 2 will most likely pick up where the original film left off. However, there have been discussions about exploring Rake’s background.

“We do not yet commit to whether this story is moving forward or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience, ”Joe Russo told Deadline in May 2020. Around the same time, Hargrave also told Collider that he would be interested in doing a prequel, although he admitted that the actual movie could go forward or backward.

Extraction 2 seems to take place mostly in the present, based on what we saw in the trailer. However, we may see flashbacks from Rake’s past. After all, the movie was supposed to be shot in Australia, so we might see something of his service in the Australian military.

What is the plot of Extraction 2?

Frankly? I have no idea. Extraction 2 has yet to receive any script details from Netflix, so your guess is as good as ours so far. To be fair, we can make educated guesses. Along with explaining how Rake escaped his near-death experience, the new movie will also have to take him to the next stage in his quest. It is likely that he will use this time to reflect on his history, perhaps returning to Australia for a more peaceful existence. But, of course, we all know it’s not going to last.

Given the level of interest in the character of Gaspar, the new plot might have something to do with the time Rake and Gaspar spent together as colleagues. Is it possible that an old enemy will reappear to haunt Rake in the present? It has been done thousands of times, but there is still room for improvement.

Ultimately, it’s probably best if we wait and see what Extraction 2 has in store for us. We already know that the sequel will be met with great expectations. And if it’s half as enjoyable as the first, the new movie could quickly climb to the top of Netflix’s popularity charts.
