The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets concluded their season Saturday with a 3-0 loss to the Marshall Tigers in the Class 3A title game. The scores were 27-25, 25-22, 25-16.
The Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association final poll at the end of the regular season ranked the Tigers first and the KoMets second. They were also ranked this way in the State Tournament.
KM All-State, All-Tournament Class 3A Team selection, passer, senior 5’9 Maddie Converse ended the game with 19 assists, 11 digs. All-State, All-Tournament senior libero 5’6 Caitlyn Wanous had 4 assists and 12 digs.
Junior 5’7 Whitney Deno reached 0.057 with 7 kills, 15 digs, 31 serve receptions. All-Tournament Senior Selection 5’7 Annika Larson had 9 kills, sophomore Ellie Ask 8 kills for Kasson-Mantorville. She was also an All-Tournament selection. They have finished a great season. Co-champions of the Hiawatha Valley League with Stewartville. Swept the Stewartville Tigers in the Section Finals, but couldn’t escape the Marshall Cats.
Marshall finished the season 33-2. It was their first title since 2013. The match lasted 81 minutes. KM had a lead the entire game. There were six ties in the contest.
Marshall had 40 kills while hitting .195. The KoMets had 27 kills and hit 0.053. The Tigers collected 7 blocks for the KoMets 4. Marshall finished with 71 digs, KM 59 digs.
Marshall had 4 players with double digit digs just like KM. The errors were almost equal with 39 for the Tigers, 38 for the KoMets.
Official statistics do not list offenses like in the net, double hits or too many hits etc.
Kasson-Mantorville had 9 ace serves while Marshall had 5. Junior KoMets 5’6 Aryss Adams had 7 ace serves with 10 digs.
Other Class 3A All-State selections include junior intermediate hitter Gabrielle Gartner of Byron. Her rookie Libero teammate Clara Hoegh. Stewartville’s senior libero Kylie Smidt, outside senior hitter Allison Elliot. Mankato West’s main outside hitter Grace Banse.

The very first Class 4A State Champions are Wayzata. The Trojans were undefeated this year as they won the title game against the East Ridge Raptors by winning the first two sets 25-22, 25-17 before losing 25-23 and then winning 25-19.
The Trojans finished the night with 65 kills while hitting 0.280, 77 digs, 11 blocks.
The Raptors had 47 kills, hitting 0.169, 68 digs, 3 blocks.
Wayzata’s libero Ella Voegele led everyone on the pitch with 22 digs. Woodbury East Ridge Libero Ellenor Crimmins has collected 19 excavations.
Eden Prairie edged Rogers 3-0 in the third place game. Lakeville North won the Consolation Championship over Bloomington Jefferson 3-1.
The tournament’s all-star team included senior 5’10 outside hitter Kaitlyn Peterson of Lakeville North.
All-state selections included Northfield juniors Sydney Jaynes and Teagan Timperly as well as Rochester Century junior Paige Decker.
Rochester Mayo won the Big Nine Conference this season. No Spartans have been named an All-State.
