That’s right! Prolific auction house Sotheby’s will sell Michael Jordan’s signature 1984 Air Ships on October 24. As part of its auction of Icons of Excellence & High Luxury, Sotheby’s is putting the Jordan’s first Nike shoes to hit the professional court in the market.

Any sports fan worth his salt knows that Nike has bestowed the star athlete a sponsorship deal in 1984. In November of the same year, while the Air Jordan 1 model was still in production, the Air Ships were given to Jordan and worn in his fifth game as a player. rookie against the Denver Nuggets.

The pair of Air Ships slated for auction were once owned by Denver Nuggets player Tommie Tim III Lewis. They were offered by Jordan himself after the end of the match.

The back of the shoe has the word “Air” printed – unlike other Air Ships, which read “Nike Air” or “Air Jordan”. The iconic shoe design is attributed to Nike expert Bruce Kilgore.

“Featured here is Michael Jordan’s first known game for the regular season, worn by Nike,” the article description on Sotheby’s The website reads: “These white and red aerial ships are a remarkable artefact in the history of sports and basketball and have been kept in excellent condition.”

Last year, the auction house sold a pair of the prom star’s 1985 Air Jordans for $ 560,000. However, these air ships are expected to explode that price. These shows are expected to sell for between $ 1 million and $ 1.5 million. This would mark them as the most expensive sneaker purchase at an auction in history.

In August 2020, Christie’s auctioned off a pair of 1985 Air Jordans for $ 615,000, earning it the record for the highest-priced auction shoe. But since these Air Ships are expected to reach almost double that amount, Sotheby’s fingers are crossed, they break the record by the end of the month.
