Editor’s Notes: Rick Owens must really love Converse as he is dropping his third collaborative silhouette – after a previous Chuck Taylor and Weapon – with the label owned by Nike this year alone. Owens’ Chuck Taylor DRKSTAR has all the principles of the Paris-based designer’s previous sneakers, but it is perhaps the most accessible of all.

Retaining the high tongue and reinforced sole of Owens’ previous Converse drops, the Owens DRKSTAR is still quite durable, even as a low end. As usual, the DRKSTAR comes in monochrome 18oz canvas tones for maximum weight and is printed with the DRKSHDW branding to reiterate its place among Owens’ other broadcast line.

Unlike Owens ‘Veja collaborations, however, his revamped Converses are an interesting stylistic crossover with Owens’ own shoe designs. Specifically, his Ramones sneakers are directly inspired by the battered Chucks worn by the legendary New York punk band, although they are much more meaty than a typical Chuck Taylor.

The first pair of Chuck Taylors that Owens dropped last summer squared to further distinguish them from his line silhouettes; the DRKSTAR does not make such a distinction with its rounded front end.

Not that anyone would necessarily confuse the two, of course, but it shows how naturally Owens integrates these partnerships into his unmistakable worldview.
