The Converse X John Elliott limited edition collaboration is about to drop Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. EDT, and we’ve got some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that John Elliot’s version of Converse’s Skidgrip is the perfect mix of the two brands; they’re worthy of the lust and easy to wear with sneakers that reflect Elliot’s aesthetic. The bad news is that they will likely sell out quickly. Priced at $ 130, you’ll want to either press purchase as soon as they’re officially available.
Fashion designer John Elliott is one of the main designers of the new American sportswear wave that is roaming the fashion world right now. Elliott reinvigorated men’s (and women’s) clothing with a mix of skate / streetwear accented with luxurious fabrics and flawless styling. Put on one of your hoodies or sweatpants, and you are enveloped in a deep sense of satisfaction. Some people have nicknamed Elliott the “King of Chill”, due to his talent for creating clothes that you never want to take off. You can even grab his famous sweatshirts in Space jam.
When Converse and John Elliott came together to design the perfect sneaker of the moment, they opted for the Skidgrip sneaker from Converse. Debuting in 1910 as the Converse Circular Vamp Oxford (dare you say three times faster), by the ’60s it involved lacing up a non-slip sole sneaker that was ready to take to the streets. And when skate culture was born in the 80s, this shoe was the shoe. BMX riders and surfers also fell in love with the sneaker, it was really the one. “I discovered the Skidgrip like any Californian child while skating very early in my childhood. It’s an iconic silhouette of our surf and skate culture, ”Elliott said in a press release. He continued, “As a skate shoe it was instantly recognizable for the authenticity it contained. The Skidgrip is an important shoe in skate culture and in the representation of California. Skidgrip has undergone some minor retooling; it now features a 30-degree angled midsole and soft double-collar collar for improved stance and performance.
Now Elliott has made the Converse X John Elliott Skidgrip even cooler and eye-catching with a flocked canvas print that echoes the growth and decay of nature, which in turn references Elliot’s textile patterns. It comes in two aptly named colors: Lichen and Rust. The canvas goes through two printing processes to achieve an organic aged patina. The Converse X John Elliott Skidgrip also sports nickel lace eyelets, a co-branded sock lining, two sets of laces, Converse’s signature smooth midsole and a herringbone outsole. BTW, this is a unisex sneaker, so you might want to keep your Converse X John Elliott sneakers hidden or locked up… for your own safety.
